Introduction to Cool Drawings

It is hard to quantify or explain what makes something cool, but we all instantly know when we find something like that. Often it is art that is bright and contemporary, such as the images listed below, but even vintage art can be cool too in some cases. We have covered a good range of themes within this list, including many animals, exciting lettering in cool fonts, portraits and figurative art as well as some truly random options that you likely never expected to find here. Some of the items below were also featured in our cute drawings section, as some are suitable to both.

Boom Cool Lettering in Pop Art Style

Bright and bold lettering in a contemporary style can be really cool! Here we find the word Boom written out in a fun way, in a Pop Art style which was made famous by the likes of Roy Lichtenstein in the US, with some other notable names also in the UK. There is a cartoon-like quality to this bold artwork, and the Pop artists essentially merged the boundaries between commercial art, cartoon art and professional fine art in a manner which initially drew criticism from some, but has since grown to become highly regarded by most of the art public. We think the use of color along with the haphazard, fun lettering style certainly makes this a truly cool image that could easily be added as a print to your home, or studied in detail regarding the modern use of typography in this work.

Rocket Man Astronaut Cool Drawing

This spaceman is totally cool! Kids love anything space-related, and the contemporary style of this sketch makes it really funky, and potentially something you might print out and hang in a kid's bedroom. The black visor leaves a certain level of mystery about the identity of the astronaut, but it is still a fun image, as we watch him or her fly around, perhaps close to their spaceship. One could easily fill this item in with color, and perhaps using it as a coloring exercise, though it still works well in just a simple black and white. The rocketpack at the back is a key addition, in helping us to identify the role of this figure.

Line Sketch of Female Photographer

This funky image captures a female photographer snapping away directly at us. This modern style reduces the detail down to simple lines and curves, all in black. This type of effect can be produced using digital software, but in some cases artists will choose to create it from scratch themselves. This interesting piece combines figurative art with an imaginative idea, making us the subject of the piece as the photographer faces us with her camera. What detail there is captures her long hair, as well as a leather biker jacket and a small t-shirt underneath. Notice also the unusual manner in which the subject is cropped, choosing not to display all of her, but cutting across the top and around the waist.

Cool Smiling Cat with Long Tail

This totally cool, happy cat looks off into the distance with a happy smile. This minimalist drawing is reduced to just a few lines and colors but works well thanks to the imagination and creativity of the artist. Cats are of course popular choices for artists and art fans, and this particular artwork was the coolest that we could find from the many available. The clear lines would work well in other forms too, such as merchandise, art prints and more and this drawing style is recommended for those working with digital art.

Cool Lady on a Motorbike Line Drawing

This vintage drawing is totally cool, with a stylish, elegant woman charging along on her motorbike in a manner that challenges norms of the time, and features a strong, female figure. The work combines strength and femininity together, with a small bag rested by the side of the back wheel, whilst she controls a strong, powerful motorbike and travels confidently at great speed. The artist adds simple horizontal lines from the back to give the impression of this speed, and the lady herself is dressed is a smart set of trousers and jacket, with a simple helmet and visor. This charming artwork will appeal to many, and the vintage nature of the fashion and style of the bike adds something extra.

Fun Cool Snail Illustration

This snail images is really cool, thanks to the bright color tones used by the artist, giving something of an exotic feel which appears to have been influenced by a variety of artistic cultures. The patterns and bright colors used to pattern the snail shell are particularly interesting, and the decision to make the snail so large and close to the viewer helps us to build much more of a connection to it. The patterns down the shell are alternated, as are the colors, running from orange, through to green, red blue and dark brown, which in combination provides a true visual treat. Detail is limited down to simple, clear lines in a fairly contemporary illustrative style and this image could be re-used in a multitude of purposes, including within digital art.

Very Fancy Cool Glasses Drawing

This might appear a slightly random choice, but this pair of glasses is about as cool as it gets! The retro design is coming back into fashion today, with thick frames which would be both fashionable but also hard wearing. The man made nature of this item also requires the artist to work with straight lines effectively, and it may have been easier to work within digital art programs, rather than working by hand in order to achieve that accurately. Each key detail of the product is designed and shown here, such as the nuts holding the different elements together, as well as some small contours on the surface of the front of the glasses. One could use this image as a basis for adding glasses into a more complex image, such as a portrait in which glasses are being worn by the subject.

Really Cool Tractor Drawing in Grey

This is perhaps the most detailed drawing in this article and is more of a technical drawing rather than an artwork. The level of precision to each element of the tractor is extraordinary, but its retro style makes this tractor image rather cool. Many modern citizens are somewhat disconnected from rural and agricultural life, making images such as this fairly intriguiing, representing a life that they do not understand or have ever lived within. Many vintage types of transport are also popular in art, including cars and planes, and so this fine image should not surprise us. This should not be attempted by beginners, but you might choose to create a much simpler outline and work from there.

Cool Owl Cartoon

How cool is this owl? His large eyes stare directly at us, with open wings and an approachable demeanor. The open beak is as if he is talking directly to us, and he seems happy. Owls are another type of bird or animal which can be re-imagined within art, moving from shy, aloof characters to something far more friendly, and human-like in their behavior. The artist uses a modernist style, with small gradients of color which run along the side of his head and torso. See also how the artist adds small white dots to the owl's eyes which give the impression of light reflecting from his face and helps to lift this imageg from being entirely static to something a little more dynamic and multi-layered.

Cool Duck Image in Yellow and Gold

Simplicty sometimes can be cool, and there can be no better example of that than in this image of a rubber duck. Three colors is all that is needed, with black for the eye on one side of its face, yellow for the body and head, with orange for its wing and beak. It would be perfectly suitable for a children's book, and could be resized up or down thanks to the clarity of this work. One could imagine repeating this same image many times over to create a pretend family of rubber ducks, perhaps even animating them with sounds. You might also use simple images like these to practice your own skills, as even a beginner could comfortably sketch around the shapes used in this sketch.

Cool Dolphin Colored Cartoon Drawing

Total coolness can be found in this charming, happy dolphin. This creature is amongst the most popular of all, particularly with children, and much of this is down to its perceived happy nature and inteliigence. Dolphins are one of the few creatures to purposely have fun for fun's sake. Its curved body and powerful flipper allows dolphins to perform all manner of exciting postures in the sea, even flying up into the sky. The artist here captures a cartoon-like image of a dolphin and mimics its qualities, whilst adding elements of human-like characteristics in order to make it even more suitable to our tastes.

Cool Moon and Stars Painting

When we think of baby art, what can be more suitable than moon and stars? Often they will be patterned across baby toys or clothing, as well as hanging as interative sculptures above a cot. Here we find moon and stars incorporated into an artwork, and this design could easily be re-used elsewhere for all manner of different purposes. What makes it suitable for children is the number of nursery rhymes which include this subject, as well as the simplicity of the shapes which are relevant to the very early stages of learning, and these can be taken advantage of by any artist, as shown here.

Fun Line Drawing of Cat for Kids

Here we find a truly cool cat, thanks to the creative style of the artist who incorporates their unique approach to art. The elements of the cat are tweaked far from reality, such as with its legs which are reduced in size, and a highly simplistic face which avoids all of the patterned fur that we are familiar with on cats. This is perfect for cartoon art, and one can imagine the artist completing a similar look to related animals such as dogs, fish and maybe wild animals like lions and tigers. Often, the style created by an artist is his brand, particularly when it is relatively unique as shown in this cat drawing.

Pink Alpaca Cool Cartoon Drawing

This fun illustration of an alpaca may have been inspired by Japanese art, as there are many elements of that style included within this sketch. Simplicity again is key here, and much is achieved with relatively few lines and shapes. The tone of purple gives a feminine atmosphere to this work, as does the cool bow added around the alpaca's neck. This is the sort of style found in modern Japanese culture, with charming illustrations such as this appearing on clothing, food containers, packaging and so much more, with huge brands built on the back of this artistic approach, generally aimed at younger people, particularly girls and young women.

Bright Star Sketch

Similar to the moon and stars found earlier in this article, here we discover a bright and charming star which shines brightly in a simple but uplifting image. The style combines a clever use of outlines and solid tones which are tweaked in position to create a feeling of movement, including with short horizontal lines jutting off in every direction. This could well have been produced using digital drawing tools, in which this type of style is easy to produce and amend, using native software. It also shows what anyone can achieve, if they have the right idea in their mind, and are able to produce it in a fairly simple format.

Cool Cats Portrait, Detailed Drawing

It doesn't get much cooler than this, with two cats relaxing in the sunshine, perched over the back of a chair. This highly detailed sketch would have taken quite some time to complete, with the artist achieving a near photo-realistic quality to the images of the two cats. This allows us to almost feel like we are sat besides them ourselves, as there is great accuracy to the work with the patterned fur of both cats being beautifully delivered. Somehow, the artist is able to recreate the soft fur textures using just a few tones of pencil, and the way in which the cats hold their eyes closed, perhaps in the face of the sun, is totally cute.

Cool Sleeping Panda/Koala

How cool is this sleeping koala? He has his arms outstretched as he lies on a branch and his ears certainly suggest this this is a koala, even though the image was originally listed as a panda. Both are totally cute animals which are perfect for art, and have been re-imagined as friendly, cuddly animals when the reality is not entirely the same. The z symbols represent the sleeping nature of this creature, and the animal is well known for sleeping, partly because of its diet which does not provide sufficient energy.

Really Sweet Bee Painting

This bee is super cool, and much of this is down to how the artist constructs the insect using very few shapes and colors. This simplicity is often key to something fun and relatable for children or adults alike. Bees have appealed to artists for many centuries, and today feature regularly in children's books. They have a great value to our ecosystems, and so children are taught to respect and protect them, whilst their striped bodies makes them charming creatures, even though they can sometimes sting us - compare their image to those of wasps who are relatively similar but always cast as the nasty villain, making artists normally prefer to ignore them by contrast.
