Self Portrait 1886

There are quite a number of portraits that have been drawn by artists over time. Ever since the development of humanity, people have been obsessed with having a painting or picture of themselves curved somewhere on a wall or brushed on a board.

One such piece of work was the Self Portrait by John Singer Sargent. This piece of work was done in the year 1886 and has been displayed at several art exhibitions all over the world. The painting what's done on oil on canvas and is currently located at the Aberdeen art gallery and museum in the UK. Just like the name suggests the picture is a portrait that was done by the American painter John Singer. And unlike other painters who used to paint others, this one went over the head and painted a description of himself thereby leaving his legacy and a means of remembrance behind.

This painting is one of them 91 uniformly sized portraits and self-portraits of artists that have been done and were being collected by Aberdeen, a patron who was interested in art. He worked side by side will McDonald Alexandra who was always in the company of his wife. However, McDonald died in 1884, but his wife still continued his husbands Legacy. The only downside of the painting is that the date of this piece of art do not match. This is because some sources suggest that the painting was done in 1901 whereas others indicate that the painting was done in 1886. This has made it difficult to track who the painting was handed to years after it was done by John. However, some suggest that the painting was handed to the wife of Alexandra in 1901. This was because the painter was familiar with collectors and was like a family friend to them.

Others suggest that by the time of his death McDonald had not owned any work by sergeant but had been close. The painting was done when the painter was in his mid-30s. From the portrait, we can see that the painter was well off. This is because of what he was wearing. The painting captures his face clearly and shows his necktie clearly done. The downside of the painting is that it's not straight nor symmetrical especially at the collar region.
